Fashionable Ways to Give

Around this time of year I start planning what I’ll wear for holidays, how I’ll decorate, and what gifts we’ll give to our friends and family. If you’re like me you’re probably thinking, aside from everything you might be focusing on for yourself, what you can do for others during this giving season. I love nonprofit work, and if you’re looking to perform an act of kindness or help someone in need particularly during this holiday time, I’ve made a list of some fashionable charities that you can donate to or buy gifts from during November.

Dress for Success

DFS is a nonprofit that helps women obtain employment through providing interview attire and developmental tools necessary for gaining financial independence. I love this nonprofit and currently assist on the style committee! You can donate some of your business attire that doesn’t fit anymore or that you no longer wear to DFS, and you’ll be helping women prepare for a chance at a new beginning

The Shoebox Project
Started by Meghan Markle’s friend, Jessica Mulroney, who’s also a Canadian stylist, this charity helps homeless women by donating wrapped shoeboxes filled with wonderful goodies, like a sweet present. The shoeboxes also include handwritten notes to help women feel empowered and hopeful. Consider writing a note, donating some items to be put into a shoebox, or making your own shoebox filled with delightful things that women will appreciate receiving throughout the holiday.

The Fashion Foundation

Looking for ways to give back while also buying gifts or your own holiday attire? Founded by a 23-year-old woman, this organization accepts donations of excess samples and products from retailers and designers and sells the merchandise to the public at a low cost. With the funds raised from sales, The Fashion Foundation donates school supplies to schools in need. Visit their website to shop discounted designer for you or as gifts!

Smart Works

Similar to DFS, this charity located in London also helps women by supplying interview attire and skills necessary for beginning a career. They provide a week’s worth of professional attire after women obtain employment! The Duchess of Sussex is a prominent figure and Patron of Smart Works, and helps to empower women through the charity. Like DFS, consider donating your professional attire that you no longer need or wear for another wonderful woman to use.

Do you know of other fashionable charities that you like? If so, feel free to comment and let me know- I’ve been interested in finding more. Thank you!
